A globe valve has a linear movement and is designed especially for control applications but can also be used for on-off service.
The fundamental principle of operation of the globe valves is the perpendicular movement of the plug relative to the seat. This ensures that the ring-shaped space between the plug and the seat gradually closes as the valve is closed. This property provides globe valves with adequate regulation capacity. Therefore, globe valves can be used for on-off service and to regulate the flow.
The main disadvantages of the globe valves are:
Higher pressure loss compared with other type of valves.
Large size globe valves require a high torque for its actuation and therefore big actuators.
